Summer Reading Club
I just came back from two days at Texas Library Association Annual Convention. You may ask "why do I care?" Well, I managed to snag some very fine loot from various vendors, which will be going out to YOU this summer in the form of Summer Reading Club prizes. The cutest plushy lizards, in red and green, advanced reader copies of new books by several popular authors, and more...

The World Without Us
Have you ever wondered what the world would be like if there were no people on it? What would happen if we disappeared tomorrow? How long would it be before every trace of our presence faded, or would it?
If you've ever wondered about questions like these, or similar ones, try "The World Without Us" by Alan Weissman, in print or audio.
Or, try "The Fragile Earth: Views of a Changing World" for a pictorial look at the Earth and Man's effect on it. Beautiful but very sad!

New Feature
I love quotations. Little snippets of knowledge, trivia, emotion and meaning. So I'm going to share a favorite quote every week or so, over there on the left side. I hope you'll enjoy them - if you have a favorite quote of your own, I'd love to hear it and share with everyone else...

We're having a BAND
The TASTYDACTYLS will be the band for our Summer Kickoff party!
They're so great. I'm really looking forward to an entertaining and busy afternoon, with the band, games (including DDR), food, volunteer and reading club sign up, and more...
So put Saturday, May 31 from 2-4 at the Central Library on your Places To Be list.

Couple of New Manga and a book review
Not much new here - but "Fairy Tale" volumes 1 and 2 should be out in the next day or two.
I also just finished reading a really good book - "Deadline" by Chris Crutcher. It is sort of a sports story - the main character Ben and his brother Cody are both on the football team in their Senior Year; but it's also about a giant secret Ben is keeping from everyone - and how he deals with it.
The book is action-packed, happy, sad, thoughtful and funny in equal proportions. I think its one that just about anyone would enjoy!
