Historical Novels

Another Genre I love is good historical fiction. Here's a list of some of my favorites, mostly from the last two years, but a few older ones that are too good to pass by.

The Season by Sarah McLean - a murder mystery and possibly also a romance, set in the Regency era in England, in the upper-crust lifestyle of the haute ton. I haven't read this one, but I really really want to! A sequel will be out soon.

The Diamond of Drury Lane by Julia Golding - Cat Royal grows up in the Drury Lane Theater, in late 18th Century England. A tale of intrigue and adventure, with a rollicking good sequel.

Guardian by Julius Lester - in the deep south of the 1940's, a white man and his son witness an act of unspeakable racism and hatred.

Uprising by Margaret Peterson Haddix - in 1927 the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire was a terrible tragedy, but this is the story behind that story; the working conditions, the strike, the lives of those who were affected by it forever, including Harriet, the boss' daughter.

Falconer's Knot by Mary Hoffman - in Renaissance Italy a pair of teenagers, one in a nunnery, and the other in a friary, dream of a life together. But then a horrific murder intervenes, and they must solve it or be forever separated.

The Letter Writer by Ann Rinaldi - Ann Rinaldi writes fantastic historical fiction about real people. In this case, a young girl is shocked to discover that the letters she has written for her blind stepmother have involved her in Nat Turner's Revolt, one of the bloodiest slave uprisings in America's history.

Goddess of Yesterday by Caroline Cooney - Anaxandra, a greek princess, is present during some of the most infamous events in Greek History, including the fall of Troy.

What's your favorite historical fiction? Do you prefer a particular time or place? Tell me and the other readers of this blog all about it!
