Book Review - Nick of Time
An action adventure book in the vein of "Gideon the Cutpurse", this tale begins in 1939, on the southern coast of England. Nick is the son of a lighthouse-keeper, and wants nothing more than to be a hero. He gets his chance when he and his little sister make a fascinating discovery - a chest washed ashore from the sea holds a magnificent treasure. But the treasure is not money, but rather a time-travel device, which takes him back to the year 1809.
In both 1936 and 1809 England is beset by enemies from across the channel, and Nick finds himself doing his best to save his country from invasion in both eras. Filled with exciting naval action, possible invasions, spying, pirates, kidnapping, and more, this tale is a delight to read. It never stops being fascinating, and Nick is a very believable young man. His sister Kate is great fun, too!
So grab a copy of "Nick of Time" by Ted Bell, and hang on for the read. You'll be glad you did.

Classic Book Review
I don't know if I've mentioned this book in the past, but it is one of my favorites
"The Outsiders" by S. E. Hinton. If you have not read the tale of Ponyboy Curtis, his brothers Soda, and Darry, and Johnny, Ponyboy's best friend, you should.
They're poor "Greasers" in a bad neighborhood, getting chased and harassed by the "Socs" - the elite school crowd. Mostly, they get along, and try to keep themselves together, and everything is going okay, until the day Johnny uses his switchblade on a Soc in a fight.
Ponyboy and Johnny panic, realizing that they've gone one step beyond what they can handle, and they run away. The rest of the novel deals with Ponyboy's attempts to understand and deal with the results of being part of Johnny's fatal action.
It's an exciting story, very real and strong. It has a very likeable main character, and the action is exciting. S. E. Hinton was only 16 when she wrote this story, and she knows about the life she's telling; you will too, when you've read it.
