Shonen Jump Magazine Replacement

Shonen Jump magazine has ceased print publication and gone to a digital format only. Because there is no "Library subscription" available, we will no longer be providing access to it.

However, because we know everyone loves their manga, we've found another magazine that we hope will fill some of the gap. It's called OtakuUSA, and is also published every month. We now have the April issue on our shelf at the Central Library! Come by and take a look at it...

Book Review

The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson - I just finished gobbling down this book. I LOVED it! It has a strong heroine who spends a lot of time growing into herself, learning to trust her own skills and her ability as a leader. It has scary moments, sad moments, wonderfully evocative moments, and a few quietly tender scenes as well. The story may seem a little predictable at the beginning - shy, fat, naive Princess Elisa is married off to handsome king of another land and must travel, become a good queen, and maybe even find true love; but it takes some twists as she discovers that true love may not be easy, becoming a queen to be proud of is hard work, especially when no one is told who you are, and then, finding out that you've been lied to by your family all your life, just makes things even more challenging. But Elisa, both comforted and challenged by the Godstone she bears, faces the adventures life throws at her with admirable aplomb. If you love elegantly written, satisfying fantasy adventure with a nice flavoring of romance, this is a story you'll love!
