New Books

Enchanted Glass by Diana Wynn Jones - Professor Andrew Hope inherits Melstone House, a place he had visited as a child, from his grandfather. When he arrives at the manor, everyone seems to know something that he doesn't. He remembers that the stained glass in the kitchen window has great significance, and he soon learns that he is also steward of a "field-of-care" that magically protects the estate. Things get odd when Aidan Cain, an orphan, arrives at the door looking for Andrew's grandfather, and the professor reluctantly takes the boy in. Andrew discovers that someone or something has been encroaching on his property, and with Aidan sets out to discover what.
Living Hell by Catherine Jinks - What happens when a single moment changes everything? For seventeen-year-old Cheney, life on earth exists only in history books. He and more than one thousand other people have known life only aboard the Plexus spacecraft: self-contained, systematic, and serene. But that was before the radiation wave... now the ship has become a terrible living enemy.
Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green - One cold night, in a most unlikely corner of Chicago, two teens---both named Will Grayson---are about to cross paths. As their worlds collide and intertwine, the Will Graysons find their lives going in new and unexpected directions, building toward romantic turns-of-heart and the epic production of history's most fabulous high school musical.

Can she transform herself?

When she finds herself forced to marry where she is not welcome, for the good of her family, she comforts herself with her study of the spirit world. But is her power there all an illusion? A compelling story of one of the most controversial figures of the Bible.
The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson - Lennie is devastated when her sister Bailey dies unexpectedly; she is caught up in her loss, her first feelings of love for two different boys, and her unresolved feelings about the mother who left when she was very young. Realistic, sometimes funny, and heartbreaking.

Infinity: the Chronicles of Nick

I was at the Texas Library Association's annual convention in San Antonio last week. One of the most exciting parts of that trip is visiting all the publishers booths in the Exhibit Hall. When I went by the St. Martin's Press booth, I mentioned I was a Teen Librarian. The exhibitor there said "Wow, have I got something to share with you!". I already had a bagful of posters and book catalogs, so I almost said "No thanks." That is, until I saw what she was clutching - an advance reader copy of "Infinity: The Chronicles of Nick" by Sherrilyn Kenyon.

For those who aren't in the know, Sherrilyn Kenyon writes the "Dark Hunter" series of novels (which now number 29, soon to be 30) in which the good allies of the Goddess Artemis defend humankind against daimons and other evils. Her newest series, the Chronicles of Nick, is aimed at young adult readers, and is VERY good! Nick is a 14 year old, enrolled as a scholarship student at a prestigious school in New Orleans. His mother is an exotic dancer, which gets him labeled "trash" by the school and students; Nick struggles to restrain his anger and bitterness. He's not helped by the fact that his father is in prison. But his real troubles begin on the night he decides NOT to help his friends mug a pair of tourists... and he begins to discover that he is anything but an ordinary teen.

I'm not going to tell you any more of the story - you need to read it for yourself. But I'll tell you I read it cover to cover in less than 2 days. I thought it was better written than Twilight, more interesting than Cirque du Freak, and more fun than Night World. It will be out on May 25th.
