What I've been reading

I just finished reading the sequel to Libyrinth by Pearl North. It's called The Boy From Ilyses, and it was very, very good. Po, a young man from a female dominated culture, has willingly chosen to remain in the Libyrinth, studying and working alongside the Librarians and Singers who now live there. But the longer he stays, the more he realizes that he doesn't fit in well at all. When he does something that causes many to view him as a traitor, Po is assigned to a group on a mission; but will he be able to redeem himself? Or will his failure cause the whole mission to fail, and thus doom the Libyrinth to starvation?

I found Po to be a very moving person; his troubles were very real to me, as he struggled to understand a foreign culture and fit in with people who behave in ways that seem very wrong to him. And the adventurous plot was very exciting. The story ends on a cliffhanger, too; book three will be out in the fall.
